TalkHQ family

Who we are, where we’re from and what we’re about.

How TalkHQ
Speech Pathology
came to be.

Our founders, Julie and Jenna, both grew up in the small tight-knit North Queensland community of Ayr.

Julie completed her studies at UQ in Brisbane before moving to Ireland to pursue her love of travelling. Working as a speech pathologist for the Cork health department before eventually starting her own practice. She met her husband and went on to have four beautiful children. After completing her studies at James Cook University in Townsville, Jenna moved to Mount Isa to follow her passion of supporting the educational and health needs of rural and remote Australians before relocating to Charters Towers to work for the education and health departments. During this time she worked on a project that involved trialling telehealth speech pathology services for families who were unable to access speech pathology services due to remote living.

Both Julie and Jenna felt the call to move back closer to their families. Julie moved back to Ayr and opened her own practice and Jenna moved back to Townsville. In April 2014 they met for coffee to talk all things family, speech pathology and their love of their hometown Ayr. It was then that they discovered they shared similar values, beliefs and an enormous passion for wanting to change the lives of children living with communication difficulties—regardless of where in Australia they were located. Several hours and countless cups of coffee later, Julie and Jenna had dreamed up the idea of joining forces and expanding across North Queensland. And so, in July 2014, TalkHQ Speech Pathology became a reality!

Leaders of the pack!

A mere four years later, TalkHQ Speech Pathology received the North Queensland Chambers Business Champion Award for outstanding contribution to the regional community.

The business was also a finalist in the Employees Choice and Business Community award categories. In the very same year, TalkHQ Speech Pathology became one of the 100 Faces of Small Business in Queensland. Both Jenna and Julie continue to work in a very much hands on capacity with their growing team of passionate and motivated speech pathologists. They continue to be inspired to deliver what they set out to achieve—high quality, accessible, family-centred speech pathology services.

What we
stand for

We are driven by our strong desire to remove the barrier of distance by ensuring speech pathology services are available for all children who need it.

We are first and foremost a family—a place where everyone belongs and is warmly welcomed. We recognise the power of play—embracing the weird and creating fun for our clients and amongst the team. We’re committed to growth and innovation—regularly developing our professional skills, welcoming feedback as an opportunity for learning and always looking for more efficient pathways to success. We empower—each other and our families through the sharing of knowledge. And we achieve—helping our clients to kick therapy goals and thereby fulfilling our passion for contribution to the community.
